Import your sphere of influence

CSV importer, field mapping, and deduping against existing contacts.

Your sphere probably lives in a spreadsheet, an old CRM export, or both. The importer brings it in as a reviewed, deduped batch — nothing lands in your book until you've seen what's about to happen.

Where to find it

Go to Data in the sidebar (under Workspace) — the Import tab opens by default — and pick People import. The Import button on the Contacts page lands in the same place.

Step 1: bring in a CSV

Upload a UTF-8 CSV with column headers in the first row (up to 2,000 rows per session), or pull one from a public HTTPS URL. Either way you get a draft import session — nothing is created yet.

Step 2: map your columns

The importer reads your headers and maps the obvious ones automatically — names, email, phone, status, source, notes, tags, timeframe, address fields. Adjust anything it guessed wrong from the per-column dropdowns, or set a column to Ignore. If your old system used different status or timeframe names, map each value to one of yours — or create a new status on the spot. Save mapping re-checks every row.

Step 3: review the rows

Four tiles track the batch: Ready, Needs review, Imported, Failed. Every row needs at least a name, an email, or a phone number. A row whose email or phone matches someone already in your book is held for review — you choose Create anyway or Skip row, so past clients don't get doubled up. Duplicates inside the file itself are flagged the same way, and bulk buttons (Skip all matched, Create all matched) handle big batches quickly.

Step 4: import

Import ready rows stays disabled until every flagged row is resolved — a deliberate guardrail. Confirm, and the ready rows become people (mapped notes come along as notes). The results section lists exactly what was created and anything that failed, and the session stays in your history under Recent sessions.

What it won't do (yet)

The importer creates new people only — it doesn't update existing records, and custom-field mapping is still to come. There's also no one-click undo: deleting an import session keeps the people it created. If you imported the wrong file, delete those contacts — they sit in the trash for 30 days (see Exporting your data), so a mistake is recoverable.
